Blue roses and the 1940s

Even if I do say so myself, this dress totally ROCKS.

The design is based on a vintage pattern given to me by my grandmother, that I think is from the 1940s. The pattern that is, not my grandma.

It's made to fit a baby somewhere between 6 months and 12 months. The dress is entirely lined, so no precious baby skin will come into contact with nasty old seams. The blue roses are from a blouse my Aunty Karen cut out sometime ago and never got around to finishing, and the rest of the fabrics are new pure cottons (including the lining which is lawn, sweet sweet lawn).

It's in The Frog Prince right now and retails for $120.

Post 200!

I know, I know, I've done it again. But let's ignore the fact I've been ignoring my blog because this is post number 200 for me - YIPPEE!

And today I'm blogging from The Frog Prince, the divine new babyshop in Oamaru. Which leads me onto an announcement - The Frog Prince is stocking my clothes! I have my very own stand and Dagmar, the shop's owner, is going to host a launch with a runway show and all. It's all very exciting.

I also have an astounding number of commissions lined up, and my clothes are going to feature in a photo shoot with some amazing local photographers. Things are coming up roses.

In the meantime, I'm sewing as much as I can, when I can. It's proving harder than I first thought though. Remy is 14 months old now and more than a full-time job. Luckily, he's started sleeping quite well so I have most evenings free (which I generally spend sitting on the couch, staring blankly into space...).

The other thing that is proving quite difficult is sourcing fabric. There is a fabric shop here - and I hope what I'm about to say doesn't get me struck by lightening - but their selection of fabric is limited, generally low-quality, and very expensive for what it is. Oh how I miss being able to pop out to Global Fabrics...

Thank goodness I have an understanding mother who is going to take me to Christchurch in a couple of weeks to shop, shop, shop until I drop.

A quick warning for regular viewers - for October I have the lofty goal of a post a day. Expect some serious drivel.

Excuses, excuses, excuses Megan Rose

Ahem...it's been about three posts since I last apologised for taking an unplanned break from blogging... and while I'm very contrite, I can't promise it won't happen again. I blame it all on the kid.

Not really. I actually blame it all on the internet having so many pretty, shiny things to distract me from the task at hand.

Which brings me to Confession: Part deux. I don't have any (finished) pretty frocks to show you either. My energy for sewing has been at an all-time low this week.

Fingers crossed this weekend will see some improvement in my flagging spirits.

Don't make me raise my voice at you again Project Runway America

You know what makes me STABBY and SHOUTY when I watch the newest season of Project Runway? Suede talking in third bloody person. For the love of god Heidi, Auf him please.
